How long does a pineapple stay fresh?

A pineapple which is fresh and not chemically treated spoils quite fast. Despite its sturdy appearance it can be damaged easily and then starts to sour. When it is kept at room temperature consume it within two days.

The ideal temperature for storage is 10°C

You can extend the pineapple’s longevity by keeping it in a fridge, but you need be careful about temperaturewhich cannot decrease below 7.5°C. If it does, your pineapple will darken from the inside. Therefore, we recommend a cool larder. If you decide to keep the fruit in the fridge, take out the pineapple before eating and let it warm up to room temperature to improve its flavour.

Frozen lasts longer

Freshly cut up pineapple can be frozen in a form of puree, juice or in syrup form. However, it will lose some of its flavour. Peel it, get it rid of the crust and cut it into chunks or rounds. Then blend it into puree. Put it into airtight plastic bags or resealable containers, freeze them and it will last up to 6 months.

You need:

  • 0.5 kg of sugar
  • 0.25 kg of water
  • pineapple cut into rings

Preparation:

Boil water with sugar. Put the pineapple rings in the water and boil for 3 minutes. Place into a jar and consume as a candy.

Pineapples taste better fresh when shared with your friends or family. However, if you can’t eat the whole pineapple, there are ways to conserve it, so this vitamin treasure does not go to waste.
